The T.W. Johnston and Sons Scholarship

"A community-minded businessman"

T.W. Johnston came to Frankenmuth in 1949 and was a member of the business community for over 40 years  with over 60 years in the grocery business. He was a member and past president of the Rotary Club as well as a Paul Harris Fellow. He served on many community boards including the Board of Appeals, Frankenmuth and Saginaw Intermediate School Boards, and as president of the Frankenmuth Economic Development Corporation. His involvement with the Salvation Army included serving as a member of the advisory board. He also received the highest service award given by the Salvation Army for service to community and the organization.

He was active at St. Lorenz Church as well as at Hillsdale College.

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist a graduating senior who wishes to pursue a career in the food industry, or related field, at any accredited college or university. This scholarship is a one year non-renewable scholarship.

Criteria for Selection
  1. Applicant must be a graduating senior wishing to pursue a Business Administration field of study. To assist the selection committee in determining the winner, first preference will be given to students who pursue a career in the food industry or related field of study such as agriculture, packaging, wholesale distribution or retail management. If there are no applicants pursuing these fields of study, a person pursuing a career in business administration or similar fields of interest would be considered as alternate appicants.
  2. The applicant must be a member of the current graduating class of an accredited high school or its equivalent, such as a charter school, home school, etc.
  3. Applicant must be planning to attend a college or university full time and must be accepted and enrolled prior to the distribution of the scholarship funds.
  4. No more than three (3) brief recommendation from teachers or adults.
  5. Scholarship will be awarded without regard to sex, race, religioun, place of birth, or personal handicap.
  6. Other criteria as recommended by the Donor.
