Harry Boesnecker & Kenneth Boesnecker Scholarship
Harry Boesnecker & Kenneth Boesnecker Scholarship: This scholarship was created by Ken Boesnecker to honor his father, renowned Frankenmuth pharmacist Harry Boesnecker. The scholarship is intended to assist Frankenmuth High School grads who have reached the status of Junior or Senior in college or those pursuing a post-graduate degree in the medical fields, with emphasis going to students majoring in pharmacy, Secondary consideration goes to those pursuing a degree in nursing or seeking to be an MD or DO.
Criteria for Selection
In an attempt to carry out the wishes of the Donor, the following criteria for the awarding of the scholarship have been determined and will be overseen by the Selection.
Committee as defined below:
1. Application Announcement. The availability of the applications for this scholarship will be announced by the Frankenmuth High School Guidance Department each year. The winner(s) will be announced to the public by appropriate means available at the time of the announcement. A standardized application shall be used for this scholarship.
2. Selection Criteria
a. The applicant must be a graduate of Frankenmuth High School.
b. The applicant must be planning to attend a Michigan college or university full time, and prior to distribution of the scholarship funds must be accepted and enrolled in one of the following courses of study in their junior, senior or additional years of studies. Primary consideration will be given to students seeking to go into Pharmacy. Other areas of study for students would include Nursing with the minimum being an RN or more advanced area with a BS in Nursing, Dentistry or Medicine for Humans with an MD or DO being the areas of specialization; with no preference
given on these area after the primary listed above.
c. This is a one year scholarship but an applicant may reapply for additional years after the first year of receipt of the scholarship funds up to three times.
d. The applicant must demonstrate academic skills by having a grade point higher than 3 .5 from their college studies.
e. Selection shall also be based on financial need of the student for assistance with college costs with those demonstrating higher need being given greater consideration by the Selection Committee.
f. The applicant must demonstrate service to his school, church or community through active participation.
g. The scholarship will be awarded without regard to sex, race, religion, place of birth, or personal handicap.
h. Other criteria as recommended by the Donor.
3. Selection Committee. The Selection Committee for the scholarship shall be the Frankenmuth Community Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee and the following members:
a. The Director of Counseling and Guidance
b. A faculty representative from Frankenmuth High School in the Biology Department
c. A faculty representative from Frankenmuth High School in the Chemistry Department.
This group shall act as the selection committee and their selection shall be final.
