Gary and Barbara Rupprecht Scholarship
- Gary and Barbara Rupprecht have spent most of their lives serving the Frankenmuth community and striving to make it a better place to live.
Now that commitment will continue for years to come with their creation of the Gary and Barbara Rupprecht Scholarship Fund in December 2016.
The scholarship’s purpose is to financially assist a student attending Michigan State University in furthering his or her education in the areas of Logistics/Supply Chain Management, Packaging, Industrial Business Management or Engineering. The scholarship will be awarded based on the student’s academic performance, extracurricular activities and leadership in the school and the community.
In addition to their careers -- Gary as a Global Logistics Manager at General Motors and Delphi Saginaw Steering Systems and Barbara as an Administrative Professional with The Dow Chemical Company in Midland -- the Rupprechts are very enthusiastic lifetime Spartan supporters.
The couple is also involved in the Jaycees and other activities. Their philosophy in life is best embodied in the first and last line of the Jaycee Creed: “Faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life” and “Service to humanity is the best work of life.”
Gary, with his wife Barbara’s support, served Frankenmuth for 31 years as its mayor, while serving a total of 39 years on the City Council.
Criteria for Selection:
- The applicant must be a member of the current graduating class of Frankenmuth High School.
- The applicant must be planning to attend Michigan State University full time, furthering his or her education in the areas of Logistics/Supply Chain Management, Packaging, Industrial Business Management or Engineering, and prior to distribution of the scholarship funds, must be accepted and enrolled.
- The applicant must be a member of the National Honor Society, establishing an academic excellence while taking courses generally regarded as college preparatory.
- Selection shall not be based on financial need.
- The applicant must demonstrate service to his or her school, church or community through active participation.
- The scholarship will be awarded without regard to sex, race, religion, place of birth, or personal handicap.
- Involvement in Student Council, Student Government, or leadership experience in other extracurricular activities.
- Participation in athletic or other inter-school spirited competition with an appreciation for lifelong lessons like “You only get out of life what you put in” and “Never give up.”
- An industrious individual who achieves beyond their natural athletic and/or academic skills.
