Matthew Bugbee Scholarship

Matt had so many special talents and many hopes and dreams.

Matthew Bugbee was a 1998 graduate of Frankenmuth High School, where he had been a member of the varsity football and basketball teams and student council. He went on to attend Michigan Technological University and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked as a summer intern and then full time as a project engineer for Spicer Group in Saginaw and St. Johns. Matt died unexpectedly in March of 2007. Matt was a charismatic leader, skilled engineer, and a passionate outdoorsman dedicated to the environment. Matt's success was not the result of innate skills or abilities alone, but rather it was his perseverance and uncompromising work ethic that set him apart.

Criteria for Selection
  1. Applicant must be a member of the current graduating class of Frankenmuth High School.
  2. Applicant must be planning to attend a college or university full time, and prior to distribution of the scholarship funds, he or she must be accepted and enrolled.
  3. Applicant must be planning to study engineering, science, medicine, natural resources or other technical field. Preference may be given to civil engineering majors or those attending Michigan Technological University, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
Evaluation Criteria: 
a. Demonstrated leadership skills and strong work ethic
b. High academic performance as demonstrated by grade point average and stadardized test scores (ACT/SAT)
c. Essay describing why applicant has chosen his/her course of study in college
d. Service to the community through active participation
